Congratulations FC Heat GU09 Black 2010 Temecula Valley Shootout Champions!
It was a great weekend at the Temecula Valley Shootout for our girls. After taking a two month break from competition, the team came back and didn’t miss a beat, winning four consecutive games and claiming the championship. The girls are continuing to show their tremendous potential with each passing event. In four tournaments played, the team has advanced to the finals three times, and in Temecula, they proved they were ready to be champions by winning a hard fought and exciting championship game 2-1.
The entire team played well, and was led by great goaltending by Jordyn Rhoades, Rachel Favela, and Kenya Campbell. Throughout the tournament, the threesome made one incredible save after another. The defense was led by Angela Hernandez, who has taken the role of enforcer and protecting her "sisters”. Whenever the opposition had an offensive opportunity, Angela was there to make sure the play was stopped and the ball returned to our team. In addition to the defense, the offense was clicking. After this tournament, we are proud to say that every player on our team has scored. The onslaught included beautiful goals from Gina Pacheco, Kalea Campbell, and Madeline Giesing. Gina also played tremendous defense showing aggressiveness and composure. Kalea may have led the team in scoring opportunities with her nose for the ball and always putting herself in the best position, and Madeline showed she can play anywhere on the field playing her usual shutdown defense and also displaying great vision from the midfield position. Our defensive stars Jordyn, Kenya, and Angela also got into the scoring column, and Rachel had several great passes which led to scoring opportunities. The leading goal scorers in the tournament were the usual suspects, Alyssa Davis, Sarah Bowling, and Lauren Sanyal. Alyssa once again showed her tremendous speed and closing ability. Sarah demonstrated her toughness and skill, showcased by her game winning goal in the championship game. Lauren continues to show her unmatched power, which was on full display as she scored from the midfield line. Last but not least, the midfield was dominated by Melissa Loera and Shawn Sanyal. Melissa may have been the most valuable player in the tournament with her extreme effort and desire, which resulted in numerous steals and scoring chances for our team. Shawn is always the toughest player on the field, but in this game she showed her advanced skill set by leading our team in assists and also scoring a goal in the championship game.
Once again, the coaches and parents are so proud of our girls and how well they are playing. It is hard to believe this team has only been together for one year, and we can’t wait to see what their future holds. Congratulations FC Heat GU09 Black 2010 Dave Shelton Memorial Cup Finalist!
It was another amazing weekend by our amazing girls. Playing in only their third tournament as a competitive team, the girls won two games and tied another to once again advance to the finals for the second straight event. While the team is still looking for their first championship, the fact that the team has come so far, so fast, shows the potential this team has to accomplish great things. Kalea Campbell continues to improve and showed great vision making good decisions throughout the tournament. Rachel Favela wowed the crowd with her unbelievable ball handling skills and scored her first goal of the season. Jordyn Rhoades was fantastic in goal and also played rock solid on defense starting several offensive runs with her strong kicks. Ginamarie Pacheco played her most aggressive tournament ever and was constantly beating the opponent to the ball. Madeline Giesing continued to use her advanced understanding of the game to give her team the best chance to succeed as she played very well in both the defensive and midfield positions. Alyssa Davis showed her speed is going to be a weapon all year as she consistently outran the defense, which led to an impressive goal in the championship game. Sarah Bowling showed speed, aggressiveness, and heart by battling all weekend on every play and never giving up. Lauren Sanyal once again led the offensive charge at striker and took several shots in each game ending up with two goals. Kenya Campbell was stellar in goal and made a game saving save on a rocket shot from the point to make sure the team advanced to the finals. In addition to scoring her first two goals of the season, Melissa Loera showed tremendous effort to race back on defense and save two sure goals by sweeping the ball away at the last minute. Angela Hernandez was the foundation of the defensive effort again by utilizing her great speed to thwart nearly every opportunity she faced. Lastly, Shawn Sanyal played as tough as any player in the tournament, running over, through, and around the opposition while dominating the time of possession in her center midfielder position. This young team now heads into their first Presidio season with a successful summer tournament schedule to build upon. While it has been nice to win, and for the girls to receive these medals, even if the team hadn’t achieved this success, the coaches and parents couldn’t be any prouder of how hard the girls have practiced, how nice they are to each other, and how much heart they possess. This is a great "team” in every sense of the word.
Congratulations FC Heat GU09 Black - 2010 Oaks Classic Finalist!
It was a great weekend for the girls as they played in their second tournament ever at the Oaks Classic in San Juan Capistrano. The girls showed an amazing improvement from their first tournament and won their division by posting a 3-0 record to advance to the tournament finals. Jordyn Rhoades and Kenya Campbell were tremendous in goal, as they registered two shutouts and only allowed 4 goals in the entire tournament. The developing chemistry amongst the defense was evident as Angela Hernandez, Madeline Giesing, and Ginamarie Pacheco shut down almost every opportunity they faced. Shawn Sanyal and Melissa Loera controlled the time of possession for the majority of the games and made several beautifully placed passes to give their teammates opportunities to score. The outside midfielders, Kalea Campbell, and Rachel Favela showed aggressiveness and speed which put constant pressure on the opposition throughout the games. Lastly, this team has shown it has the ability to score as Alyssa Davis scored 2 goals, Sarah Bowling scored 2 goals, and Lauren Sanyal tallied 5 goals. We like to say "one team, one heartbeat”, and the girls certainly acted like a family, which made our first out of town adventure a memorable one. The smiles on the girls’ faces during the team meals, time at the hotel pool, and impromptu finger nail painting party with Taylor Swift blaring in the background were the best part of the entire experience.
